Jin10 reported on August 24th that on the 23rd local time, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in Tokyo, Japan, and issued a joint press release after the meeting. This is the first time in 17 years that the leaders of South Korea and Japan have announced the results of their talks in the form of a joint press release. Lee Jae-myung stated that this is the first visit to Japan by a South Korean president since the normalization of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan in 1965, and it is also the first time in 17 years that the leaders of the two countries have issued a joint press release after a meeting. Lee Jae-myung expressed that the two countries will take this opportunity to resume the leaders' "shuttle diplomacy," signifying that South Korea-Japan relations are back on track, and he hopes that "shuttle diplomacy" will become a new model for South Korea-Japan diplomacy. Kishida Fumio stated that both sides agreed to steadily develop the friendly relations between South Korea and Japan based on the 1965 Japan-South Korea diplomatic talks. The press release noted that the two leaders unanimously agreed to steadily advance bilateral relations: including strengthening strategic communication in the security field; promoting cooperation in areas such as hydrogen energy and artificial intelligence; establishing a discussion framework between the two governments on common issues such as local revitalization, declining birth rates and aging populations, and disaster prevention; expanding the working holiday visa system, and further promoting personnel exchanges between the two sides.
