Ethereum plans to shorten the block generation time to 6 seconds, which may be implemented by the end of 2026.

[Chain News] PANews, June 24, reported that Ethereum core developer Barnabé Monnot recently discussed the EIP-7782 improvement proposal, which aims to reduce the block generation time from 12 seconds to 6 seconds. This plan is scheduled to be included in the Glamsterdam upgrade at the end of 2026. Technical adjustments include compressing the block proposal time from 4 seconds to 3 seconds, reducing the verification time from 4 seconds to 1.5 seconds, resulting in an overall latency saving of 6 seconds.

Analysis indicates that after acceleration, DeFi transaction confirmations will be more efficient, arbitrage opportunity windows will shorten, but it may put pressure on network bandwidth and low-configuration validation nodes. If successfully implemented, the Ethereum Gas limit is expected to increase threefold, and the blob supply may reach eight times the current amount. This proposal is currently in the early discussion stage and must undergo strict testing to avoid smart contract compatibility issues.
