UniFi: The innovative upgrade of Based Rollup enhances performance and Decentralization
The Evolution of Rollup Technology and Exploration of New Solutions
Rollup, as a representative of blockchain scaling technology, has been continuously developing and improving. This article will explore the basic concepts of Rollup, the latest Based Rollup solutions, and an innovative optimization solution called UniFi.
Basic Concepts of Rollup
Rollup technology aims to enhance the transaction processing capacity of blockchains while maintaining low fees. Its core idea is to bundle a large number of transactions together, process them off-chain, and then submit the results for verification on the mainnet. Currently, there are mainly two types:
Optimistic Rollup: Default transactions are correct and are only verified when challenged. It is faster but has a challenge period.
ZK Rollup: Uses zero-knowledge proofs to ensure transaction correctness, more secure but technically complex.
The core of Rollup lies in "performing a large amount of work off-chain and submitting the results on-chain" to improve processing speed and reduce costs. The process can be divided into two parts: batch packaging and transaction confirmation.
Based Rollup Solution
Based Rollup is a new solution proposed for the role of the sequencer. The sequencer is responsible for sorting and packaging transactions from L2 to L1, but currently, centralized solutions are often used, which pose potential risks.
Based Rollup transfers the responsibility of transaction ordering to L1, which is handled by Ethereum validation nodes. This design avoids centralization risks, but is also limited by the performance of the mainnet, resulting in longer transaction confirmation times.
UniFi Optimization Plan Analysis
UniFi introduces a "pre-confirmation" mechanism to optimize Based Rollup:
Commitments to Rollup transactions made by Ethereum validators before block packaging.
Set up a penalty mechanism to ensure that validators fulfill their commitments.
Through pre-confirmation, UniFi bypassed the issue of Based Rollup being restricted by the mainnet block time, improving transaction confirmation efficiency.
UniFi AVS Implementation
UniFi AVS is based on EigenLayer's Restaking technology, packaging UniFi into an AVS service. Validators can participate in providing pre-confirmation services and there are corresponding penalty mechanisms in place. This solution makes pre-confirmation easier to achieve and adds real value to Based Rollup.
The Core Value of UniFi
UniFi, as an upgrade solution for Based Rollup, has the following advantages:
Among them, synchronous composability helps to address the issue of liquidity fragmentation. UniFi allows different Rollups to interact within the same block, eliminating the need for cross-chain bridges and providing users with a seamless experience.
Summary and Outlook
The development of UniFi depends on the necessity of Based Rollup. From a long-term perspective, decentralized orderers and solving the issue of liquidity fragmentation are essential.
Based Rollup is more like Ethereum's "vassals", directly scheduled by Ethereum and following a fair system. In contrast, mainstream Optimistic Rollups are more like "feudal lords", with a high degree of autonomy but requiring additional adjustment mechanisms.
Both solutions have their own advantages and disadvantages, reflecting the trade-offs in decentralization, efficiency, and benefits. In the future, different types of Rollup solutions will coexist to adapt to diverse application scenarios. Continuous exploration and improvement of technology will create more possibilities for the blockchain ecosystem.
