According to U.S. government project demonstration documents obtained by foreign media, the Trump administration's flagship "Golden Dome" missile defense system will consist of four layers—one space layer and three land layers, with plans to deploy 11 short-range missile battalions in the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii. This presentation was shown last week to 3,000 defense contractors in Huntsville, Alabama, revealing the system's daunting deadline set by Trump for completion by 2028 and its unprecedented complexity. The project draws on the concept of Israel's "Iron Dome" system, but due to the vast territory that needs protection and the diverse threats it must address, its scale and complexity far exceed the prototype. The demonstration document indicates that the system consists of four integrated layers: 1) a space sensor targeting layer equipped with missile warning, tracking, and interception capabilities; 2) a three land-based defense layer composed of interceptors, radar arrays, and potential laser weapons. Notably, the map in the demonstration document shows plans to build a large missile base in the Midwest for the deployment of the "Next Generation Interceptor" (NGI) developed by Lockheed Martin (LMT.N). This interceptor will form part of the "high-altitude defense layer" along with the THAAD system produced by Lockheed.
