The Person Who Attacked Justin Sun's Crypto Exchange Is Trying to Launder Coins - Coin Bulletin
The person who hacked the cryptocurrency exchange Poloniex last year is trying to launder the stolen cryptocurrencies.
According to research by blockchain security firm PeckShield, the hacker tried to launder the 1,100 Ethereum he received from Poloniex by transferring it to Tornado Cash.
Cryptocurrency mixers, such as Tornado Cash, are commonly used by criminals looking to keep track of their transactions. For this reason, the US had put Tornado Cash on the sanctions list.
Approximately $100 million was stolen from Poloniex during the attack last November. Blockchain researchers suspect that the North Korean-backed Lazarus group may be behind the attack.
Founded in 2014, Poloniex was acquired by Tron founder Justin Sun in 2019.
