The Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued a stern warning: if national interests are harmed, countermeasures will be taken against countries cooperating with the U.S.
The trade war between the two major economies of China and the United States continues to escalate, potentially affecting more countries. The Beijing government issued a stern warning on Monday, stating that if any country harms China's interests in cooperation with the United States, China will not hesitate to take countermeasures. This statement is a response to the United States' expansion of tariff attacks and attempts to rally other countries to jointly confront China.
The Ministry of Commerce of China stated: "Implementing hegemonic politics and unilateral bullying in the economic and trade fields. Appeasement will not bring peace, and compromise will not gain respect. For one's own temporary selfish interests, exchanging the interests of others for so-called exemptions is futile, and in the end, it can only lead to a lose-lose situation, harming others without benefiting oneself."
The United States exerts pressure on allies through negotiations, while China responds strongly.
The Trump administration plans to pressure allies in tariff negotiations to limit their economic exchanges with China. Although the U.S. has suspended the imposition of tariffs on multiple countries for 90 days, the tariffs on imports from China have increased by up to 145%. In the face of such a situation, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce emphasizes that no country should reach an agreement with the U.S. at the expense of China's interests.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce stated: "China firmly opposes any party reaching an agreement at the expense of China's interests. If this occurs, China will definitely take resolute countermeasures in accordance with the situation."
China accuses the United States of "unilateral bullying" and boasts of defending fair trade.
In addition to issuing warnings of retaliation, China is also trying to reshape its image in the international trade system. The Ministry of Commerce stated that China is willing to cooperate with all countries to jointly uphold international fairness and justice. At the same time, it criticized the United States for abusing tariff measures, implementing "unilateral bullying," and undermining the global trade order.
China warns that if such behavior is allowed to develop, international trade will descend into a "law of the jungle," posing a potential threat to all countries.
Beijing's retaliation measures escalate, targeting US companies.
China has taken tougher retaliatory measures against the US this month, raising tariffs on imported American goods to 125%, while imposing restrictions on the export of key minerals and blacklisting several American companies, prohibiting them from collaborating with Chinese enterprises. Although many of these companies are small to medium-sized, their symbolic significance is substantial, indicating that China can no longer tolerate unilateral pressure.
Despite the tense situation, Trump stated last week that he expects to reach some sort of agreement with China in three to four weeks. However, most analysts are cautious about this, believing that it will be difficult for both sides to compromise in the short term.
Xi Jinping's Southeast Asia visit conveys an anti-American message.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia last week, marking his first overseas trip in 2025. During meetings with the leaders of the three countries, Xi Jinping called for a joint resistance against tariff barriers and "unilateral bullying," clearly aiming to rally neighboring countries to counter pressure from the U.S.
Currently, Southeast Asia has become China's largest regional trading partner, while the United States remains China's largest single-country trading partner.

China adjusts its negotiation team and files a complaint against the United States with the WTO.
In terms of trade negotiations, China is also making internal adjustments, appointing Li Chenggang to replace the original chief negotiator and promoting him to vice minister. Li Chenggang previously served as China's ambassador to the World Trade Organization, indicating that Beijing may seek breakthroughs within the multilateral system. China has lodged a complaint with the WTO regarding the latest tariff measures from the U.S., preparing to initiate a legal battle on the international stage.
