New SEC Chair to Deliver First Public Address on Crypto
Paul Atkins, the new chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, is expected to show his presence at the SEC’s crypto custody roundtable on April 25, 2025. After holding the new position, this will be the first public address of Atkins focusing on digital assets
The crypto market is excited to watch his comments on digital assets, as with this coup, everyone is seeking loosened regulations and a more crypto-friendly environment
The meeting is scheduled on April 25 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm as per Eastern Time (ET). It is speculated that Atkins will give his opening remarks with Richard Gabbert, the senior advisor to the acting chairman, Chief of Staff, Crypto Task Force, and other SEC Commissioners
The event is named “Know Your Custodian: Key Considerations for Crypto Custody, and the panel of the event is to be moderated by Zach Zweihorn, Davis Polk and Wardwell. Members of the panel will be Terrence Dempsey, Fidelity Digital Asset Services, Copper Technologies Ltd., and others
The event will cover two panels, the first one is named “Custody Through Broker-Dealers and Beyond,” and the other one is titled “Investment Adviser and Investment Company Custody.”
Two More Sessions To Come
The session is mainly focused on crypto custody in the US, and many participants have spoken on the matter previously. The industry members have also raised their concerns that the current SEC rules do not satisfactorily show the operational realities of digital asset markets
Justin Browder, a partner at Simpson Thacher, mentioned that in the current scenario, there are only a few qualified custodians who are able to provide solutions for crypto-assets
This session is a continuation of the last roundtable on crypto trading on April 11. Two additional sessions are to be held on May 12 on tokenization and another one on June 6 on decentralized finance
