With bitcoin hovering above the $94,000 mark, dormant reserves have started to stir with increasing frequency. On Friday, 12 distinct legacy wallets—dormant for nine years and five months—sent 1,200 BTC, their first move since creation. 1,200 Bitcoin that have been dormant since 2015 have moved into new addresses. Bitcoin.com News recorded the revival of dormant coins two days prior, noting price levels not seen since March. On April 25, 2025, a 2015 whale moved 1,200 BTC — worth $113.35 million at the time — for the first time in over nine years. Btcparser.com marked this event, revealing the movement across blocks 893,881 to 893,885.

When 12 P2PKH addresses (pay-to-public-key-hash) accumulated their holdings in 2015, BTC changed hands at a price of $374 each. Therefore, the treasure of 1,200 coins was valued at approximately $448,800. On April 25, the stack was transferred to numerous Bech32 P2WPKH (pay-to-witness-public-key-hash) addresses and was split into smaller pieces. Take transaction "c5348", this transaction moved 100 BTC out of its source address and distributed the total amount across 12 new P2WPKH wallets. Wallet 1 accepted 7.516 BTC, Wallet 2 collected 7.804 BTC, and Wallet 3 recorded 9.696 BTC. Wallet 4 absorbed 6.995 BTC, Wallet 5 accounted for 6.70541587 BTC, and Wallet 6 sent 6.902 BTC. Wallets 7 to 12 collected between 8.201 BTC and 9.622 BTC. Blockchair's security tool assesses this money transfer at 90/100, pointing out one inconsistency: "there are no outputs of the same type as the inputs". The revival of dormant bitcoin reserves amid sky-high prices indicates a calculated repositioning by long-term holders. The transfer of old coins to modern wallets, fragmented hints at portfolio rebalancing or discreet liquidity planning while implementing advanced address protocols for greater sophistication in transactions.
